Cash shop outfits are fine, as long as they aren't the ONLY outfits.

Main Post:

I'd be fine a with a two-tiered system, where the outfits available in-game aren't as fancy as the pearl shop outfits. But I am not okay with a system where the only "outfits" are cash shop outfits. Why can't we put a piece of regular gear into the outfit slot? It seems Daum doesn't think we need to customize our characters at all unless we're willing to pay for it. The current system is unacceptable.

Daum seems to think that changing your appearance in BDO is like choosing your appearance in League of Legends—a special vanity perk for those who are willing to pay. What they are forgetting is that BDO is an MMORPG; and what is necessary to both RPGs and online social games is the ability to change and evolve the appearance of your avatar. Customization is not an extra perk, it is a core feature of the game type.

Cash shops and special costumes are fine. But give us something! I don't want to be one of a thousand Valkyries wearing the same armor set. I gave my character a name and a face; and I did that because I had the crazy idea that in this game world, my character could be somebody. That is the dream that sends so many people into one Norrath or Azeroth after another. That's why the first thing you read when you open the front cover of the first WoW box is, "Create your own unique hero", or why the third feature on the back of Ultima Online's box reads, "Your appearance, abilities and personality are uniquely your own." The second feature listed on the back of Everquest's 2001 box is, "Design your own unique character". Even when these developers lied, and you had to wear what you had to wear, they always recognized and tried to exploit the player's desire to be his own character.

BDO has missed this point. And that flaw might be fatal in the long run.

Problem with crafted outfits is that they take the place of your armor. It isn't actually a costume.
